Akio Ohtori
« The morning star... also known as Lucifer. The star that was originally an angel, but chose to become the Devil. »
— Akio Ohtori on the Morning Star, hinting at his past.
Akio Ohtori is the main antagonist of the anime series Revolutionary Girl Utena by Be-Papas.
Once the heroic Prince Dios, Akio grew tired of the role and abandoned any good inside him, becoming the chairman of Ohtori Academy, leaving his sister Anthy to suffer for all eternity solely for the sake of his own desires.
In the anime, he was voiced by Jurota Kosugi in Japanese and Josh Mosby in English, althought he was voiced by Crispin Freeman in the thirteenth episode of the English dub. In the movie, he was voiced by Mitsuhiro Oikawa in Japanese and Josh Mosby in English.
What Makes Him Irredeemable?
- While he was indeed truly heroic as Dios, and he was so devoted that he grew sick and a crowd showed up demanding his help he couldn't provide, ultimately, he chooses to become an absolutely monstrous man, with any sympathy in the backstory instead being given to Anthy, whom in trying to help him, ended up stabbed by countless swords, for which she will always feel the pain of, and in spite of this, Akio uses her as a pawn for his plans and a sexual object, callously uncaring towards her agony.
- For the aforementioned reasons, any care he may have had for Anthy is long gone - although he very much could help her, he no longer cares about her as a person and leaves her to her eternal torment, since it helps him personally, and attempts to use her as a human shield during his battle with Utena.
- For equally as obvious reasons, any care he shows to any of the students of Ohtori Academy is pure manipulation, as all he desires out of them is sex.
- When Anthy ultimately decides to leave after witnessing Utena's sacrifice and fully confirming to her that she truly cared for her, and wasn't simply using her like the other Rose Duelists and Akio, Akio pathetically attempts to manipulate her into staying, only to completely fail, with even Anthy now understanding that all he's doing is playing the role of a prince, having completely discarded any of the heroic ideals that entails.
- All in all, Akio, underneath the facade of some tragic hero, is a deeply pathetic man without a single sympathetic quality to his name.
What Makes Him Heinous?
- Akio remorselessly condemns his own sister to eternal suffering all for the sake of his own pleasures.
- In addition, he also forces her into weekly sex, outright raping her if she dares refuse, leaving her an apathetic shell who is willing to go along with his plans solely because she believes nobody will ever save her.
- Indicated to have put Ohtori Academy in some form of time loop where he can sexually exploit teenagers for as long as he wishes, doing so countless times in the show proper, taking many students on "car rides" that are allegorical of sex.
- Seduces Tokiko, which Nemuro witnesses, causing Nemuro to lose his mind and burn himself and 100 students alive.
- As "End of the World", he orchestrates the Rose Duels, forcing Anthy to be the Rose Bride and do whatever the winner of the Rose Duels demands of her, having done so for a long time, often finding victims when they're younger and giving them a ring.
- We see him do such with Utena, showing her "something eternal" - Anthy's suffering - all so that, when she becomes a teenager, he can groom her too.
- Is heavily indicated to have poisoned Kanae, his fiance, and murdered her.
- Manipulates Utena into moving in with him all in order to eventually groom her into sex, which he ultimately succeeds in.
- Upon revealing himself as End of the World, he reveals he also wishes for Utena to become his child bride, intending to force her into the misogynistic role of a princess, absolutely disgusting her.
- Ultimately exploits Anthy's learned helplessness to manipulate her into stabbing Utena so that he can beat her in the duel, in spite of Anthy's love for Utena.
